If you're new to kinetics and you don't yet have a rolling chassis to build your sculpture upon, I'd recommend visiting the Atomic Zombie website. http://www.atomiczombie.com/ While Atomic Zombie's focus is not on kinetics, many of the trike and quad designs could work very well for your purposes. There are lots of useful tech tips, builders' forums and galleries, and even plans for sale. (Be sure to check out the photo of the Baltimore team "Rat Rod" in the builder's gallery. Now THAT'S a kinetic sculpture.)
