Professional Judges

The Kinetic Sculpture Race will be judged by experts in each catergory. 

Sculpture - Tim King

Tim holds a Bachelor of Science degree from North Central College, Naperville, IL. He has studied with many celebrated sculptors, including: Gary Alsum, Gary Price, Jack Kreutzer, Kirsten Kokkin, Valentin Okorokov, Jim Warner, David Parvin, Ann LaRose, De L’Esprie, Lincoln Fox, Walt Horton, and Victor Issa. His art has won many 1st Place and Best of Show awards at various exhibitions and art shows. He is a member of the Longmont Artists' Guild, National Sculpture Society, Longmont Studio Tour planning team, Academy of Fine Art Foundation, and Boulder County Arts Alliance. He is the owner of King Sculpture Studios, and his work is on display at Solstice Gallery in Longmont and Sargent’s Fine Art in Lahaina, HI.

Engineering - Paul Norton

Paul Norton is a Senior Engineer with the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). His research has included alternative fuel vehicles, zero energy homes, high performance commercial buildings, and island sustainability. Paul has authored and coauthored technical reports on topics ranging from zero energy design and building performance testing practices to alternative fuel truck and bus fleet evaluations.

Paul is a long-time member of the International Human Powered Vehicle Association. In 1998, he founded the Cyclepathz Kinetics team. During the team's six years of competition, they finished in the top 3 Overall every year and won 1st place Overall three years in a row. Most recently, Paul built a 3-seat, rear-wheel steering recumbent tricycle to get his family around the Burning Man Festival.

 

Costumes - Judy Ernst

Judy has been a local costumer for almost 30 years.  She is the Wardrobe Mistress for Longmont Theatre Company, Candlelight Dinner Playhouse, Carousel Dinner Playhouse, and California Actors Theatre. Judy also works with the Drama departments at some of the local High Schools.  Last summer, she was honored with a Channel 7 Everyday Hero Award for her work with Longmont Theatre Company. This summer, she won the All State Costumer award for Trifles at the Colorado Community Theater Coalition (CCTC) competition. She owns her own business, JAE Designs.

Team Style - Danice Crawford & Kate Moreland

Danice Crawford is a community arts organizer for First Friday Boulder & founder of the NOBO Nite Out. She coordinates Marisol Imports, her family's textile & furniture gallery, and is the publicity director for Boulder's Upstart Crow Theatre Company.

Kate Moreland is a musician, founder of local indie pop group Arjuna, and a performer with the Denver Museum of Nature & Science's educational program.

Both Danice & Kate will be starring in the Upstart Crow Theatre Company's September production of An Ideal Husband, by Oscar Wilde.
